Investing in Adventure, Leadership, and Lifelong Skills
We get it—raising kids isn’t cheap. And while Scouting is one of the most valuable experiences your child can have, it does come with some costs. But here’s the good news: we never let money stand in the way of a Scout’s journey.
Whether it’s fundraising, financial assistance, or creative cost-cutting, there are plenty of ways to make Scouting affordable for every family.
💰 What Does Scouting Cost?
Here’s a rough breakdown of what to expect:
Annual Costs
- National Registration Fees – Paid to the BSA each year
- Troop Dues – Helps cover troop equipment, activities, and program costs
- Summer Camp at Rodney – A week of adventure, sailing, and outdoor skills
One-Time Costs for New Scouts
- Uniform – Scouts will need a Class A uniform, but they don’t wear it often (more on that later!)
- Camping Gear – Basic gear like a sleeping bag and mess kit (Don’t panic—we can help you figure out what’s necessary!)
But don’t let these numbers scare you off—Scouting is more affordable than you think once you take advantage of our fundraising and cost-saving options!
🎄 Sell Wreaths, Fund Your Adventure
Every year, Troop 105 runs a holiday wreath sale, and it’s our biggest fundraiser. Here’s how it works:
✔️ Scouts who sell enough wreaths get a portion of the proceeds in their Scout fund.
✔️ This fund can be used to pay for campouts, summer camp, and other scouting costs.
✔️ The more wreaths your Scout sells, the more their fund grows!
This isn’t just about raising money—it’s also a great way for Scouts to practice leadership, salesmanship, and responsibility.
🤝 Financial Assistance: We Take Care of Our Own
At Troop 105, no family should ever have to choose between putting food on the table and sending their child to summer camp.
That’s why we maintain a troop fund to support families going through tough times. Whether it’s help covering registration fees, or camp costs we’re here to make sure every Scout gets the full experience, no matter the circumstances.
And with boys aging out of the program, we can always find you a tent or a sleeping bag.
If finances are a concern, please talk to the Committee Chairperson confidentially—we’re always willing to help.
👕 Uniforms: Why Pay Full Price?
Here’s a little Scouting parent secret: Kids outgrow uniforms faster than they outgrow video game trends.
You do not have to buy a brand-new uniform. Many families have found great deals on lightly used uniforms on eBay. Since our Scouts only wear Class A uniforms twice a month at meetings and once at summer camp, they don’t see much wear and tear.
And if you’re looking for local options, let us know—we may have extra uniforms donated by past Scouts.
🏕 Making Scouting Affordable for Every Family
Scouting is an investment in your child’s future—but that doesn’t mean it has to break the bank. Whether through fundraising, financial assistance, or smart cost-saving tips, we’re here to make sure every Scout has access to the adventure, leadership, and life skills Scouting provides.
