What You Need & How to Get It
The Scouting America uniform is more than just a shirt and some patches—it’s a symbol of belonging, leadership, and adventure. But don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert seamstress (or spend a fortune) to get your Scout looking sharp.
Below is everything you need to put together the Troop 105 uniform, plus some helpful tips for saving money and making it last!
🧥 Official Scouting America Uniform Checklist
Your Scout will need:
- Scouting America Uniform Shirt – Khaki with American flag on upper right shoulder
- Scouting America Pants – Dark green (shorts or long pants, your choice)
- Scouting America Web Uniform Belt – With official buckle
- Scouting America Uniform Socks – Green
- Scouting America Neckerchief Slide – To hold the neckerchief in place
- Scouting America Merit Badge Sash – 36” sash for merit badges
- Scouting America Shoulder Loops – Green (2) worn on epaulets
When you join Troop 105, you will also receive a dark green Troop 105 neckerchief—this is given to all new Scouts as part of our tradition!
🪡 Patches & Insignia Placement
A few key patches go on the uniform. Here’s where they belong:
- Chester County Shoulder Patch & Troop Numerals (“105”) – Worn on the upper left shoulder
- World Crest Scout Emblem & World Crest Ring Emblem – Worn above the left pocket
If you’re not sure where things go, don’t panic! You can:
- Ask a leader at a meeting
- Check online guides for proper placement
- Have them sewn on at the Scout Shop for a small fee
- Use “Badge Magic” (a peel-and-stick solution for patches that makes life easy)
🛒 Where to Buy Your Uniform
You can find official Scouting America uniforms and patches at:
🏪 The Scouting America Shop in Exton – This is the easiest place to get everything you need in one trip. Just tell them you’re with Troop 105, and they’ll help you find the right patches and gear.
🛍️ Scouting America Online Store – The Scout Shop has everything you need if you prefer shopping online.
🔎 eBay & Secondhand Shops – Kids grow fast, and so do their uniforms! Many families find great deals on gently used uniforms on eBay, thrift stores, or through former Scouts.
💡 Pro Tip: Buy a size up! Scouts grow. If the uniform is a little big, that’s perfectly fine—we’re a no-judgment zone!
👕 When to Wear the Uniform
At Troop 105, we believe in function over fashion, so Scouts don’t have to wear the uniform all the time. Here’s when they do wear it:
✅ Twice a month at regular troop meetings
✅ Once at summer camp for the big closing ceremony
🚫 When NOT to Wear the Uniform:
- Camping trips – We’re here to hike, climb, and build fires, not worry about keeping a uniform clean!
- Backpacking & outdoor adventures – You’ll be in your outdoor gear, not your Scout shirt.
