🛡️ 60+ Years of Keeping Kids Safe and Counting
We understand that sending your child off into the woods with a group of Scouts and adult leaders requires trust. That trust does not come from words alone. It comes from a proven track record of doing things right.
For more than 60 years, Troop 105 has kept kids safe. We do not just follow Scouting’s strict national safety policies. We go above and beyond to ensure that every child in our program is protected, respected, and supported.
And we do more than just protect Scouts. We teach them how to protect themselves. The best safety net is not just rules and policies. It is knowledge, awareness, and the confidence to speak up when something does not seem right.
If you are considering Scouting but have concerns about safety, here is everything we do to ensure your child is in good hands.
🛑 How Troop 105 Ensures Safety
1️⃣ No One-on-One Situations. Ever.
Scouting has one of the strictest youth protection policies of any organization. No adult is ever alone with a Scout.
✅ Two-Deep Leadership Rule: Every activity requires at least two registered adult leaders. No exceptions.
✅ No private meetings: If a Scout needs to talk to an adult leader, it happens in an open and visible area.
✅ No shared tents: Parents are not even allowed to tent with their child. Scouts who are more than two years apart in age cannot share a tent.
✅ Strict background checks: All registered leaders must pass multiple background checks before working with Scouts.
This policy is not just strongly encouraged. It is strictly enforced.
2️⃣ Every Adult Must Be Trained in Youth Protection
Before an adult leader can work with Scouts in any capacity, they must complete Youth Protection Training (YPT).
🛡️ But Troop 105 does not stop there. Our Scoutmasters undergo additional youth protection training mandated by the Catholic Church, reinforcing our commitment to creating a safe environment for every child.
📚 Every training covers:
✅ Recognizing and preventing inappropriate behavior.
✅ How to handle and report any safety concerns.
✅ Best practices for keeping youth safe in group settings.
If you do not complete Youth Protection Training, you do not work with our Scouts.
This ensures that every adult involved in our troop is fully trained in how to keep Scouts safe.
3️⃣ Teaching Scouts How to Keep Themselves Safe
Safety is not just about what adults do. It is also about empowering Scouts to recognize risks, set boundaries, and protect themselves.
🎥 We show multiple safety and anti-bullying videos to help Scouts learn how to recognize and respond to unsafe situations.
📜 We teach the Citizenship in Society merit badge—also known as the “How Not to Be a Jerk” merit badge. It focuses on respect, inclusion, and standing up for what is right.
🗣️ We encourage Scouts to speak up. If something does not seem right, they know they have the power to say something.
The safest Scouts are not just watched over. They are prepared for real-world situations.
4️⃣ More Parents Means More Safety
One of the best ways to keep kids safe? Have more parents involved.
👨👩👦 Troop 105 is family-friendly for a reason. When parents attend meetings, come on campouts, and stay involved in their child’s Scouting experience, the troop becomes safer, more accountable, and more welcoming.
✅ More parents = more supervision
✅ More parents = more trust and accountability
✅ More parents = a stronger community that looks out for each other
We welcome and encourage parent participation because it makes Scouting better, safer, and more meaningful for everyone.
⚜️ The Bottom Line: Safety is Non-Negotiable
For more than six decades, Troop 105 has created a safe and structured environment where kids can grow into confident leaders.
But safety is not just rules and policies. It is a culture we build together.
🏕️ Every adult is trained.
🛡️ Every Scout is empowered to recognize risks.
📜 Every activity follows strict safety guidelines.
👨👩👦 Every parent is welcome to participate.
Your child’s safety is not just our priority. It is our responsibility. And we take that responsibility seriously.
If you ever have concerns, questions, or just need reassurance, we are here to talk. Because keeping Scouts safe is not just what we do. It is who we are.
🔥 Welcome to Troop 105—where adventure is exciting, but safety always comes first.
